The South West Regional Forensics department serves the police forces for Devon & Cornwall, Dorset, Avon & Somerset and Wiltshire.
In addition to being part of the South West Regional Forensics collaboration, Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police are in a strategic alliance so our alliance recruitment team advertise posts for both these forces.
Devon and Cornwall Police:
To give you an idea of scale, our Force is the largest for any police service in England, and the 4th largest in the UK. Devon has the longest road network in the UK at over 8,000 miles and Cornwall has the longest coastline, at 675 miles (Devon has the third longest, with 509 miles). That’s quite a patch to cover and shows what a unique area this is to work in.
As well as a huge rural beat, we also have many urban areas to police. Exeter and Plymouth are major cities and large towns like Penzance, Torquay, Barnstaple, St Austell, Exmouth & Truro have their own character and issues. The Isles of Scilly are also part of our Force area and as a group of small islands 80 miles from the mainland they have their own distinct feel.
Dorset Police:
Despite being classed as 93.7 per cent rural, the county includes an airport as well as seaports that serve internal and international freight and passenger travel.
Annually we provide a policing coverage for around 800,000 residents, which increases during term time with students from the universities and colleges. A further 11 million people visit Dorset each year for short breaks or holidays.
We are one of the highest performing police services in the United Kingdom, and as a member of Dorset Police you will feel a strong sense of pride in working to protect the communities we serve to help achieve our vision of being a safe county for everyone.
